Coach Sean has been coaching sports for over 30 years. He started coaching runners in 2012, first assisting with Running Room Marathon Clinics and then taking on the Head Coach role for the varsity Cross Country and Indoor Track teams at Centennial College. In his time at Centennial, Sean led the Men’s Cross Country team to 3rd in Ontario and a Canadian College national ranking of 7th. The Women’s team achieved 5th in Ontario. The men’s and women’s indoor Track teams dominated at meets held in 2015 and 2016, winning both the George Brown and Centennial Invitationals.
Since leaving Centennial in 2016, Coach Sean has focused on helping adult runners excel in 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Full Marathon distances. For Beginners, there is the Walk to Run/Race - see Programs.
Sean’s philosophy of coaching is “help the athlete achieve their potential by taking a holistic approach in supporting them.” He enjoys getting to know each athlete and what motivates them. His approach is to provide a balanced development opportunity for the athlete. Safety is also top of mind for Coach Sean, and he works with the athlete to ensure they are training in a safe manner. Learning to run slow is just as important, and potentially more important than learning to run fast. Sean enjoys getting to know his athletes, what motivates them and how to best support them achieve their goals. He developed the Run Strong program help runners achieve their goals!
Besides being a Coach, Sean also has a lengthy running resume which includes completing in 9 marathons (Boston 2X, Chicago, Hamilton, London, New York, Ottawa, Prague and Toronto). He has run a number of Half Marathons, a 10 Miler (3rd overall), as well as many 5k, 10K and trail races, as well as the Cabot Trail Relay and Ragnar Relay. He understands what is required to be successful a successful runner and running team.
Sean is also a co-founder of 'BikeforKids.To', a charity event raising awareness and funds for Meagan's Hug which raises funds for paediatric brain tumour research at Sick Kidis in Toronto. In 2017, he and a friend, cycled across Canada to start Bike for Kids. Each year they hold a Spinathon to support the charity. To date well over $200,000 has been raised. In 2024, Coach Sean was asked to create a new run club in east Scarborough. The Scarboro Road Runners were established in October 2024. The club operates out of Highland Fitness at 364 Old Kingston Road. Club runs are Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.
